MYSC reaches out to residents

07 Dec 2015

The Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture (MYSC) employees in Serowe have heeded the President's call of giving back to the community, as they engaged in a number of activities to improve the lives of residents. They picked litter around the museum on Friday December 4.

In an interview, the MYSC community service committee secretary, Ms Kelebileone Charles vowed that they had decided to visit Khama III Memorial Museum where they assisted with litter picking.

Ms Charles said the main objective of the community service initiative was to voluntarily meet the needs of the people living in their community.

The activity involved only employees of the MYSC though they sometimes involve other departments in some of their activities. The museum assistant, Mr Kabo Jone expressed appreciation to MYSC employees for seeing it fit to reach out to them.

He said their delight came from the fact that they have never received such assistance in many years. Mr Jone said the museum was not fully resourced.
“We are few in terms of staff and also struggling financially as the museum is community based.”

Mr Jone added that understaffing of the museum usually forced the available staff to multi-task, including cleaning which has proved to be handy.

The museum assistant continued to further appreciate the MYSC’s gesture, adding that such a place has to look neat as it was visited by various people and also from time to time hosts activities such as the President’s competitions.

He said often times when they host such competitions, they do some cleaning and maintenance such as painting the walls. “What MYSC staff did has reinforced the two entities’ relationship.” ENDS
