07 Dec 2015

Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) continues to effectively implement its Vision 2018 strategy.

Speaking at the BNSC special general meeting on Thursday December 3, the chairperson, Solly Reikeletseng said they had undertaken an exercise that would ensure that all their affiliates had developed strategies aligned to the 2018 strategy.

“We therefore have 100 per cent compliance in that regard. It is important to note that phase one of the first four years of the strategy is coming to an end next year, therefore in the first half of next year a review of the strategy will be done to develop a strategy for phase two,” he said.

Reikeletseng added that they expected that in the second half, all affiliates would have aligned their strategies in a common template to allow consistency.

On hosting of events, Reikeletseng said Botswana Softball Association (BSA) had won a bid to host the World Congress for the World Baseball Softball Confederation in 2017.

That, he said was big opportunity for the country because it would host the baseball and softball divisions as well as their mother body.

On netball, he indicated that a Memorandum of Understanding for the Netball World Youth Cup 2017 with the International Netball Federation, which prepared for the signing of the hosting contract, was being finalised.

“We look forward to the netball event as it will be the first ever sport event at world level that we would have hosted,” he said.

Furthermore, he said preparations for hosting the International Working Group (IWG) on Women 2018 congress, was ongoing.

On the other hand, he indicated that the HeForShe programme that sought to promote involvement of men in fighting discrimination had been launched.

Reikeletseng said it was imperative for sport administrators to ensure that gender mainstreaming initiatives became part of their normal business operations.

He encouraged them to log on to www.heforshe.org to sign up to show commitment to the cause.

He noted that the IWG also hosted a meeting of the Africa Technical Working Group on Women and Sport as part of the legacy to resuscitate the African Women Movement. ENDS
