CHBC refers patients to Bontleng Clinic

02 Dec 2015

The Bontleng/White City Community Home Based Care Centre (CHBC) is linked to the Bontleng Clinic and refers patients to it.

Assistant Minister of Health, Dr Alfred Madigele said the Greater Gaborone DHMT provides them with supplies and transport when required. “It is also responsible for the disposal of clinical waste of the patients under the Bontleng/White City HBC Centre,” he said

Dr Madigele said his ministry provides security and utility services for the centre. He noted that the combi was part of a fleet inventory for Gaborone City Council and was transferred to Ministry of Health in 2010 upon the relocation of primary healthcare.

“It is still attached to the CHBC programme in the District Health Management Team and is used to support all CHBC in the district, including the Bontleng/White City Home Based Care Centre,” he said. He added that all 14 clinics in Gaborone City depend on that combi for transport logistics for CHBC. Sites and clinics, including the Bontleng/White City Home Based Care Centre request for transport from DHMT whenever required, said Dr Madigele.

In addition, he said volunteers who look after patients were paid allowances to cover transport costs. Dr Madigele said he expects the centre to continue to provide the much needed services they have been providing over the years.

The MP for Gaborone North, Mr Haskins Nkaigwa had wanted the minister to explain the role played by his ministry at Bontleng/White City Home Based Care Centre. Mr Nkaigwa also wanted to know what happened to the combi which was donated to the centre by Global Funds, how the centre was expected to function without transportation, and what was the centre’s future.
