Extension Gunners attacker, Pako Gaofose, scored a hat-trick during his team’s 5-0 rout of BR Highlanders in a beMOBILE Premiership encounter in Lobatse.
Gunners’ hard working midfielder, Kenny Pilato, opened the score line with a header on the 13th minute. The goal spurred the 22-year-old Gaofose to score three goals in the 17th, 38th and 44th minutes, thuis making it 4-0 before half time.
Gaofose should have increased his tally to four immediately after recess but was denied by the woodwork. BR Highlanders exerted themselves well, but their efforts were let down by shambolic defending, which saw Letlhogonolo Mosala back heel the fifth goal for Gunners.
Highlanders attack also lacked aggression and never tested Gunners goalkeeper, Wagarre Dikago. Gunners’ introduction of Mothusi Cooper and Bonno Mosea late second half provided the exuberance of youth to the game.
For Gunners, the win was also the first for coach Daniel Nare since he took over from Pio Paul. The win also came in the wake of the resignation of the club chairman Kitso Dlamini a fortnight ago.
Dlamini was coerced by some Gunners supporters to step down as a result of the club’s recent string of defeats according to team manager Johannes Coetzee in an interview. He said Oduetse Langwane who was his deputy had since taken over the fort.
Meanwhile Nare said he was relieved to pocket maximum points. He said pressure had been mounting on him to produce results lately.
“Just like strikers, we are measured on results, I am happy that we have been struggling to create chances in the past but today we were much better. It’s a good turnaround for us and I hope we will build on it going forward, “he said.
He said he wanted to give all his players a fair chance to stake their claim so that when the January transfer window opens he would know what to do.
For his part BR coach, Tebogo Mokute, conceded that the game was a must win for him but acknowledged that Gunners were hungrier to win than his charges. Nonetheless, he said it was not all over yet for his team. Ends
