ICTA bears fruit

The coordinator of the African Transportation Professional Networking Group, Dr Simon Oladele says the International Conference on Transportation in Africa (ICTA) is producing results.
Speaking in an interview at the 2nd ICTA meeting in Palapye, Dr Oladele said there were many developments in the country that were guided by some of the recommendations of the papers which were presented during the first ICTA last year.
He said some of the improvements were made because the country made use of the recommendations and deliberations from the first conference. Dr Oladele added that he was hopeful that Botswana would utilise resolutions from the conference in order to realise enhanced safe and sustainable transport infrastructure.
He said the exchanges during the conference addressed the challenges which African countries were facing in delivering efficient and effective transportation facilities.
“The participants of the conference have the opportunity to receive paper presentations and discuss a wide range of issues that are relevant to enhancing safe and sustainable transport infrastructure in developing countries,” he said.
The head of department at the faculty of mechanical energy and industrial engineering, Professor Moses Oladiran said the African Transportation Professional Networking Group were guided by its critical core values of commitment, respect, innovation, teamwork, integrity, caring, accountability and leadership.
He said the theme of the conference: Enhancing safe and sustainable infrastructure for developing countries, was relevant to many African countries since they were facing many challenges in their effort to improve safe and sustainable transport systems.
Professor Oladiran said he was impressed by the seriousness of the experts, their attendance and their commitment to the course of improving transport services.
He said the papers were not only professional, but of practical orientation and relevant to all in the various fields of transportation. Ends
