ESP to cover Betesankwe Lefhoko schools

26 Nov 2015

The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Mr Frans Van Der Westhuizen said he is aware that there are no administration blocks and library rooms in Lefhoko, Tsonyane, Seherelela, Betesankwe, Sesung and Selokolela primary schools.

Minister Van Der Westhuizen however told Parliament that there are 8 water borne toilets in Lefhoko, 13 in Tsonyane, 2 in Seherelela, 9 in Betesankwe, 6 in Sesung and 24 water borne toilets in Selokolela.

He explained that Lefhoko, Betesankwe and Sesung are connected to the national grid while in Tsonyane and Seherelela contractors are on site to electrify the primary schools using solar power.

He said Betesankwe and Lefhoko  will be covered under the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) saying for the schools that are not covered under ESP, they will be included in  the District Development Plan 8 and the normal maintenance under the recurrent budget.

He was responding to a question from Kanye South MP,  Mr Abram Kesupile who had asked the minister if he is aware that professional school work at Lefhoko, Tsonyane, Seherelela, Betesankwe, Sesung and Selokolela are gravely hindered by lack of administration blocks, lack of water borne toilets, inadequate maintenance of school fences, shortage of electrical power and shortage of library rooms.

Mr Kesupile also asked the minister to state the  schools that will be covered for maintenance and infrastructure under the ESP and those that will not be covered. Ends
