Mr Kabo Raditladi is the winner of the just ended Orange Botswana Developer Challenge.

The challenge was run across 12 countries with each country expected to crown and announce their top three projects.

The winners would ultimately be entered into the group challenge, where a winner would walk away with 10 000 Euros.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Orange Botswana challenge jury panelist, Mr Gazza Motswagole said the initiative was for the company to support innovation and the use of technology to better the lives of the communities within which it operated.

He said when adjudicating, they were looking at the innovative aspect of the application, distribution potential of the service and financial sustainability of the project, amongst others.

Mr Motswagole said they were impressed by the level of creativity that the developers had and that it was not easy for them to come up with a winner because of the tough competition.

For his part, Mr Raditladi said his application, eCattle, was a solution based mobile application.

He said with eCattle, farmers could be able to register on the application via unstructured supplementary service data and provide their brand certificate.

”Each time cattle are housed at Matimela kraal, the database will be updated and if a match turns up for any of the registered brand certificates, the owner would be notified by SMS to come and collect his cattle before they are auctioned', said the 23-year-old Botswana Accountancy College student.

He the application provided an eMarket for farmers to list cattle for sale in each region. “Local butcheries and anyone who needs to buy cattle will access the list and contact farmers directly, removing the middle man,” said Mr Raditladi.

He would now battle it out in the top 12 with developers from the other African and the Middle East region countries. The international jury is expected to sit and select the winner on November 25. Ends
