24 Nov 2015
The Minister of Labour and Home Affairs says all the cases registered at the Letlhakane District labour office for the year 2015 and those brought from 2014 were attended to within the 30 days stipulated in the act.
Mr Edwin Batshu said for the year 2015 to date 454 trade disputes have been registered and 68 cases were brought forward from 2014 bringing the total number of cases handled to 522. He said out of the 522 cases, 223 were settled, 67 referred to the Industrial Court, 79 were dismissed for non-appearance, 17 were referred to the Botswana Police Service, 16 were withdrawn and 120 were still in process.
“The 120 pending cases are still and will be handled within the 30 days stipulated in the act,” he concluded. The Member of Parliament for Boteti East, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe had asked the minister if he was aware that the Letlhakane District labour office does not handle disputes within the 30 days as stipulated in the act, and if so, why and when would this be rectified.
