Resources limit labour inspections
23 Nov 2015
The Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Mr Edwin Batshu has told Parliament that his ministry had planned to conduct labour inspections for 13 companies in the mines around Letlhakane.
Mr Batshu said due to limited resources all the 13 companies have not been inspected. He said his ministry has been conducting inspections targeting specific sectors per quarter. He said in the first quarter of this year labour inspections concentrated on the agricultural sector.
He said the second quarter was concentrated on the retail sector whereas the third quarter targeted the tourism sector. Mr Batshu noted that during the fourth quarter, which is January to March 2016, labour inspections would be conducted in the mining sector, including all the 13 companies that have been targeted for labour inspection.
The MP for Boteti East, Mr Lalatisitswe Sethomo had asked the minister to state the number of companies that have been waiting for inspections around Letlhakeng. Ends
