Panthers fail Bears test

22 Nov 2015

Bears ladies on Saturday emerged a better team against Panthers narrowly beating them 3-2 in a duel that could have gone either way in the ongoing BOFINet softball league at the National Diamond.

Bears fielding prowess and experience came in handy as they stayed focused reading the play to the demise of Panthers who had started the game well.

Panthers were the first to score in the second inning through Neo Seth’s smack which sailed home Onneile Phalalo and Lesego Rankwaila.

The early runs put so much pressure on the opponents who only managed to register a run in the third inning by Melitah Seabelo.

Bears made sure that Panthers do not step on the home plate ever again as the latter continued to struggle getting knocked out swiftly in the third inning.

Panthers missed an opportunity in the fourth inning with all bases full but the runners relapsed and failed to read the game and sold their souls out being tagged out easily.

The battle got intense for Bears in the fourth inning who were looking for a run to level score and it finally came from Thata Matshiri courtesy of Apelo Madisa’s hit.

Panthers on the other hand sold themselves out leaving bases while batters hit high balls to their dismay getting tagged out.

Bears winning run came in the sixth inning through Matshiri as they ruptured in to a celebratory mood after working so hard to topple the opponents from the lead.

In another encounter at the same venue BDF men walloped Blue Angels 9-3 in a one sided lukewarm duel.

The game started late due to Blue Angels submitting team line ups citing shortage of players hence BDF were handed the first two innings to bat before the opponents could bat.

BDF hit the ground running scoring four runs in the first inning and two in the second inning which gave them a 6-0 lead before the opponents could bat.

Blue Angels came and scored a run in the opening inning, and continued to struggle to catch up.

The army boys registered a sole run in inning three and two last runs in inning four while Angels point two and three came in the third and fourth inning respectively.

It was a walkover for the defending champions BDF who enjoyed registering stress-free runs courtesy of the opponent’s poor communication and commitment. Ends
