MVA Fund supports Okavango trade show

19 Nov 2015

The Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA) has sponsored the first ever Okavango International Trade Show with P20 000.

The show is scheduled for November 24-29 at the Gumare Show Ground and Assistant Minister of Trade and Industry, Advocate Sadique Kebonang will perform the official opening.

One of the organisers, Mr Ookeditse Motimedi said Carnival Furnisher and Executive Inn Hotel in Gumare were some of the companies that had come on board.

He expressed optimism that the fair would be a success as more sponsors, companies and the community had shown interest to partake in the event.

“The response shows that companies and communities at large appreciate the importance and benefits of the upcoming event,” he added.

Mr Motimedi revealed that various sectors such as the business community, farmers, tourism operators, government departments, private companies and non-governmental organisations had also shown interest to make the event a success.

The show, which would be held under the theme: Bringing services to the people hence creation of employment opportunities, had attracted exhibitors from Ghanzi, Gaborone, Francistown, Maun, Shakawe, Gumare and surrounding villages.

The main objective of the fair is to bring services and products closer to the people, and the organisers decided to host the show because the Okavango Sub-district had limited service providing organisations such as CEDA and LEA.

The expo targets young people who are unemployed and unable to take advantage of government initiatives. It is hoped the show  would give them the platform to learn more and make informed decisions towards government programmes aimed at empowering them.

The organisers are working closely with Gumare’s leadership, farmers associations, the local business community and the show committee to ensure all goes according to plan.

Different activities lined up for the five-day event include a horse race, beauty pageant, music festival, kids’ corner and many more. Ends
