Presidents address business as usual - Arone
15 Nov 2015
MP for Okavango, Mr Bagalatia Arone says the State-of-Nation (SONA) there were no key pronouncements on matters of policy generally to reflect on the challenges faced by the country and the deliverables.
Responding to SONA, on Thursday November 12, he said the address qualifies as a business as usual and that it paints a good picture.
He said people of Ngamiland do not have anything to celebrate as the FMD continued to cripple the farming industry in the area.
Mr Arone further stated that Agriculture has for many years been relegated and the country has depended on the bountiful diamonds that are no longer performing well
He said the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) government is continuously failing Batswana as the SONA did not address problems that affect Batswana such as the feedback on the performance of Vision 2016.
He said as the Botswana Congress party, they had expected the President to brief Batswana about the blueprint that has always been a flagship on the BDP government.
“We are not interested in the new vision when we have not been updated about the current vision,” he said.
He further said unemployment, the high cost of living, demotivated workforce, poor education and inequalities continue to affect Batswana.
Mr Arone said his party has always advocated for formulation of teacher council that will go a long way in uplifting and motivating teachers, but to no avail.
He said the demotivated teachers were contributing to the poor examination results. Ends
