12 885 dropped out in 3 years

23 Apr 2013

The Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Patrick Masimolole informed Parliament that the total number of dropouts between 2009 and 2012 is 12 885.

When answering a question, Mr Masimolole said that none of the dropouts however, have been cited as being due to language barrier, but rather as a result of expulsion, illness, death, marriage, pregnancy and desertion.

He also said in an effort to implement inclusive education in schools, teacher aides have been introduced where applicable to bridge the gap and mitigate against possibility of dropouts due to language barrier.

Selebi Phikwe West MP, Mr Gilson Saleshando had asked the minister to state number of children who dropped out of primary schools in Botswana due to language barrier between 2009 and 2012. ENDS
