Business defeats unemployment
09 Nov 2015
The year 2015 came as a blessed one for Mr Opelo Sebonetse who found a way of paying bills through old tyre decorations. In an interview, the 31-year-old man from the Tutume Sub-district said his business keeps him busy and focused in his journey to become a millionaire.
He explained that his passion for tyre decoration dates back to his childhood days when he used to play with tyres with his mates.
Mr Sebonetse said while playing with the tyres many ideas of how the used tyres could be brought back to use came to his mind.
He said he used to cut the tyres to make a lot of things such as donkey carts bridles, sandals and later on he realised with a bit of creativity he can make flower pots and sell.
Having no chance to further his studies after completing his Form 3 at Dukwi junior secondary in 2007, Mr Sebonetse took his tyre passion seriously and considered to make a business out of it.
He said his business, which is located in Lepashe, is slowly growing and promising to sustain his life in the future.
Mr Sebonetse said he likes what he does because it also gives him a chance to meet different characters of people while promoting his business.
While paving his way to the top of the business world, he says it is not always an easy and noble way to reach for the desired dream.
Mr Sebonetse said he encountered a number of challenges such as few customers because of his business location. He said Lepashe is a small village with little population.
He said as a way of expanding his business he started to visit different places to market his place and enlarge his customer’s territory.
Another problem that he experienced is transport for his raw materials. He is however, optimistic that should his application for Youth Development funding be approved other problems will be a thing of the past. Ends
