Ndwakule finds solace in manufacturing

08 Nov 2015

There always comes a time in life when one looks back at what they have done in life to gauge their achievements.

This seems to be the decision taken by Mr Heckson Ndwakule of Sound Investments, a company that manufactures door and window frames at Mmamashia industrial site, near Gaborone.

Taking us through the memory lane, Mr Ndwakule said he began working for Window-off, a company that manufactured window frames and fencing materials, where he learnt the frame molding skills.

Mr Ndwakule said he watched the company grow into an established entity but he was not making any progress in his personal life.

“This then made me to rethink my life and the goals I want to achieve. I needed to make a sound decision that will change my life forever.”

Having worked for the company for 30 years, it came a time to reconsider focusing on developing his life and family.

He said he approached the founder of the company and relayed the matter to him, arguing that he has seen the company grow from strength to strength, but he remained the same.

Mr Ndwakule said after speaking to the owner, he agreed to sell him part of the company, which dealt in fencing.

He bought the machinery with his savings to kick start his own, Sound Investments, which saw him become a business owner, something he has always dreamt of.

Mr Ndwakule said for the 30 years he worked for Window-off, he amassed a lot of experience, which now helps him to run his own business, more so that he did a good job that satisfied his customers.

He said when he left, the customers followed him, and he continued to deliver as expected, adding that he cannot afford to disappoint his customers.

He further said because of the good work he did with his former employer, he made a mark which made marketing his own company easy.

Mr Ndwakule said he is now overwhelmed by orders, which have put a strain him, more especially that he uses a small vehicle to deliver the orders.

He added that the challenges is going through gave him an idea to expand his business so that he can deliver on time and as scheduled.

The managing director of Sound Investments further said he requested assistance from Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) which advised him to seek financial assistance.

Mr Ndwakule further said he desires to secure his own plot because the place he has hired is too small, especially that he intends to buy more machinery so that he can meet the expectations of his clients.

He said he was pregnant with hope that the loan he has applied for would be a success.

When quizzed why it took him such a long time for him to start his own firm, he said he feared to take the risk. Ends
