Contestants quash doubts
22 Apr 2013
As the countdown to crowning this year’s music star continues, My Star organizers have decided to select a variety of places where members of the public could be given a feel of the competition.
Apart from the weekly Friday session held at the Botswana Television auditorium, every week the contestants will now get an opportunity to sing live at a place selected by the organizers.
The past weekend the contestants took the diamond mining town of Jwaneng by storm, and they did not disappoint as evidenced by the crowd’s positive reaction as well as the judges comments.
After waiting anxiously for the show to begin, revelers were treated to a marvelous performance by Kagiso.
The dread-locked lad was more confident as he did his thing with the microphone.
Even though he did not do much justice on the dancing aspect, Kagiso evidently impressed the judges, with even the ever so shrewd DJ Sid giving him the thumps up.
Incidentally, Kagiso’s performance had set a trend to all other contestants who performed after him. It seemed nobody wanted to be surpassed, with almost everybody putting on a marvelous performance.
Even though Palesa did not deliver the best of performances, at least she would be remembered for A.T.I’s trademark of a black tear on the left eye.
Some of the highlights of the show include Vusi doing justice to Westlife’s When You Looking Like That.'
The young man came out of his shell and surprised everybody with his amazing dancing moves. “We should come here everyday if this is what you guys want,” was all Kgomotso could say.
Appearing in a short skirt, Khumo commanded respect from the crowd as she confidently did her thing. She successfully managed to keep her singing and dancing at the same level, which got the revelers screaming and singing along.
Even though she did not impress DJ Sid with the type of song she had chosen, he was smitten by her performance, especially that she was swinging her tiny waste sideways.
Some of the crowd’s most favourites, Noah, Tebogo and Ontefetse did not disappoint either.
Noah was commended for having shown improvement in the last weeks, while Tebogo on the other hand got people screaming at the top of their voices.
Perhaps the climax of the show was when Tebogo moved off stage to mix with the crowd; the crowd surrounded him in approval while others had to elevate themselves to get a better glimpse of him as he moved around the hall.
The cheering that Ontefetse attracted was so much that the instruments had to be replayed after the noise had subsided because he could not hear the beats. His appearance made the crowd go wild hence he could not start singing instantly.
“Your voice amazes me, your voice never breaks…you keep going up. You need to develop other weapons, if you can do that there’s no stopping you,” remarked DJ Sid.
Nonetheless, some contestants pulled the scale down with their lukewarm performances. Loloh’s low tune made her one of the dull performers of the night. Clad in red overalls, Gaone did not deliver the best of performances and she was a bit reserved on stage. ENDS
