Inmates showcase talent

22 Apr 2013

The prisoner administration and rehabilitation officer, Anastacia Ramotshabi has said the Prisoner’s Cultural Day is meant to nurture talent.

Giving a keynote address at the Prisoner’s Cultural Day celebrations in Serowe over the weekend, Ramotshabi said the event gave prisoners the opportunity to nurture their talents so that when they get out of prison they can be able to sustain themselves.

She said the day was also important because it gives inmates a chance to take stalk of themselves and also get in touch with the outside world.

Furthermore, Ramotshabi told the inmates that they might be behind bars but it does not mean that their thinking and talents are also detained.

She also said the event was meant for body building and enhancing the spirit of team work so that when they are released, they do not have problems mixing with the masses out there.

She reminded them that being in prison is not the end of life but they should rather see it as an opportunity to introspect and make wise decisions when they get out.

The objectives of the day were to intensify recreational activities for inmates and to promote self confidence and positive use of leisure time.

The activities of the day included traditional dance, poetry, pantsula dance and gospel amongst others and the winners were awarded with trophies.

The Northern division prisoner’s cultural day celebrations includes all prisons north of Dibete such as Mahalapye, Serowe, Francistown, Selebi phikwe and Boro prison.ENDS
