Tasc redeem itself

21 Apr 2013

First Division North League football campaigners, Tasc demolished a hapless Tonota FC by three goals to nil at BDF Donga grounds on April 20 to take their point tally to 17 in the log.

This was a well-deserved redemption for Tasc after they lost their last game by two goals to nil against Amakhosi.

Despite having their game against FC Satmos cancelled at the last minute last weekend, the Tango boys appeared to be in good shape from kick-off against the visitors who huffed and puffed at every opportunity.

A few minutes after kick-off Tonota FC were awarded a penalty which they failed to convert and this seemed to sap a lot of energy and confidence from them as they never recovered from the disappointment.

The visitors’ captain, Thabo Ngake failed to provide the much needed leadership, and most of the attacks launched by his team failed to yield any positive results.

On the other hand, Tasc’s Tshoganetso Malizimba, who proved to be a thorn on the Tonota FC defence, kept them on their toes and was finally rewarded midway through the first half as his free kick beat Thabo Race in the visitor’s goals to give the hosts the lead.

Eric Nthoiwa, the Tasc skipper marshalled his troops with gusto at the back and dictated the pace  of play which made it easier for his midfielders to distribute balls in the middle of the park.

Had it not been for the wastefulness of Wame Keikanetswe, Tasc could have scored an avalanche of goals in the first half, but on several occasions he ballooned wide even when he was left only with the keeper to beat.

Both teams, however, wasted a lot of chances especially from corner kicks and set pieces which could have tilted the scales to their favour.

In the second half, Tasc came back with blazing guns and introduced Mothata Lucas for Ramontsho Ramontsho in an effort to shore up their attack and this paid dividends.

Deep in the second half, Tonota FC defender, Edger Seseko fouled the stocky Malizimba who gave him a torrid afternoon with his dazzling footwork inside the box and the referee awarded a penalty which was converted by Keikanetswe.

Mothata Lucas hit the final nail into the visitors’ coffin with a well-timed shot after beating Mothusi Modise from a through ball.

However, despite their loss, Tonota FC goalkeeper had a brilliant game as he prevented what could have been a massacre of his side by producing acrobatic saves when called to action.

The youthful goal minder took total control of his area, but was let down by his defence. He surely is a prospect to watch out for in the future and it will not be surprising if he is lost to premier league teams.

His execution, distribution of the ball and positioning matches that of seasoned goalkeepers.

Tasc coach, Boenyana Galeboe was elated and impressed with the performance of his team and attributed this to the return of midfielder Donald Maano who missed crucial games due to work commitments.

However, he said that it was difficult to maintain consistency because he rarely has the full squad during training.

This, he said, affected preparation for games. ENDS
