Thieves seek refuge in school
21 Apr 2013
The old Tatitown Primary School has now become a safe haven for thieves after it was closed in 2008.
The school was closed following safety concerns as it is located near a river and students were allegedly playing in the waters, which put their lives at risk.
The Mayor of Francistown, Mr James Kgalajwe in an interview that when they realised that the school was becoming a hiding place for thieves, the city council agreed to use it for community projects which would be beneficial.
He said that the council was trying to come up with community projects such as poverty eradication schemes to keep the place occupied and keep thieves away.
The council has also hired security guards to prevent property vandalism.
Mr Chiche Musa who resides next to the school in Blue Town, said thieves vandalised the school property and were a menace to people who passed through there in the evening and even during the day as they robbed them of their hard-earned belongings.
Ms Monkgogi Basebi, also said they had not witnessed any crimes committed but sometimes heard people, especially women screaming at night, a sure-sign that they might have been attacked by thieves. ENDS
