Region four teams proved to be a cut above the rest over the weekend as they obtained first position in three out of four competitions during the National Constituency Sports Tournament Cycle two held in Jwaneng.
The tournament attracted 32 teams from eight regions to participate in netball, football and volleyball in both men and ladies.
The men’s volleyball was won by Francistown South’s Block 8 Volleyball team by a slim margin of three sets to Enkondomboro’s two.
Palapye based Airborne came third position after humiliating Vegeta of Gaborone North to 3 sets to 1.
The Francistowners further emerged champions in Netball as Combi Stars walloped The Heroes of Gaborone Bonnington South to 42 goals to 31. Tsolamosese of Gabane/Mankgodi came behind in position three after a 15 goal difference which elevated them above Delta Queens of Maun East.
The biggest battle was witnessed during a football match between Nlakhwane Football Club and Thito Young Stars from Maun West.
By the end of full time the two sides had played to a two all draw, hence they proceeded to a penalty shootout.
The Tati West side ended up escaping by a whisker when they managed a paltry 7-6 score that sent their rivals to position two.
Position three went to Gaborone South based Highway FC who had managed to demean Semolale FC of Bobirwa with a 1-0 score.
The ladies uplifted Region two when Maun West -based Hustlers volleyball club thwarted Selebi-Phikwe’s Miami’s efforts to register the sole first position for Region five.
The latter was walloped three sets to nil, with Makgaolakgang of Boteti East coming in third position after sending Molepolole North’s Hurrican to the gallows with a 3 -1 score. ENDS
