ESP to benefit construction industry

27 Oct 2015

The recently announced Economic Stimulus Programme is expected to positively benefit the country’s construction sector among other sectors. Speaking at the official opening of the 2015, PPC Cement Botswana Builders and Construction Expo, permanent secretary in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Science and Technology, said the construction industry was one of the sectors that had been dull for a long time and government has also realised that.

Mr Dikagiso Mokotedi said the construction industry provided infrastructure support for the economy and with the stimulus programme, it was important that such initiatives found the industry in good shape and ready to hit the ground running.

On another issue, he said his ministry was currently working on a law that would regulate the construction industry.

He said the expo came after the launch of the Construction Summit last year, which focused on the industry’s desire to self-regulate for improved service to its customers.

Meanwhile, Mr Mokotedi commended PPC Cement Botswana for organising the expo, noting that it was a platform for industry players to share ideas, concerns and an opportunity to introspect under a more relaxed environment.

The expo also provided an opportunity for different companies to launch new products or introduce new services that they could offer.

The company was also commended for its campaign dubbed PPC building dreams competition where one lucky PPC customer will win a house valued at P4 million. The PPC initiative is designed to promote proper product use of cement and other building materials. Ends
