Art piece captures hearts

Art enthusiasts at Botswana Craft on April 19 did not regret gracing the event as they were treated to a thrilling piece of art called rhythm project movement two, despite the rain and chilly weather.

Rhythm project movement two, is a piece of art combining music and visual arts which aims to prove the importance of nature in human life, while the production also encourages appreciation of nature as an element of art.

It is basically a visual poem depicting transitions between stages of life as the movement had, among others, the birth of a child and its death.

Along the movement, there was a session where the performance was done in an open area to appreciate the importance of rain and coincidently, it was actually raining as if it was meant to be part of the show.

The sizeable number of people who attended the show could not stop screaming with joy whenever there was a transition from one act to the other as performers displayed well-choreographed moves.

The movement was presented by a group of breath-taking artists  living in Botswana including some from Zimbabwe, Zambia, South Africa and the United States calling themselves New Moon.

According to the director of the production, Moratiwa Molema, rhythm movement two was basically showcasing the similarities between cultures.

She said the movement was inspired by a native American ceremony called the medicine wheel, which is a celebration of life, hence the visual celebration of the cycle of life.

Rhythm project movement two draws visual and musical inspiration from Setswana, San, American, European and Brazilian culture.

However, Moratiwa said there was also rhythm project movement one, where she was testing out cast for the first time and it was only twenty minutes long. This was where she got positive feedback and decided to continue doing rhythm project movement two with an increased duration and cast.

Rhythm project movement three is also coming soon. ENDS
