GU refute Gumbo resignation

22 Oct 2015

Gaborone United (GU) chairman, Rapula Okaile, has refuted claims that the club’s head-coach, Rahman Gumbo has quit the troubled club.

However, sources close to the Gaborone giants said the Zimbabwean-born coach tendered his resignation yesterday (Thursday) following the team’s indifferent start to the beMOBILE Premiership campaign.

Contacted for comment, Okaile said he was surprised at the rumours.

“I can confirm to you that we have not received any resignation letter from Gumbo and he is still the coach of GU,” Okaile said.

Gumbo said he was unable to say anything as he was driving when this publication tried to contact him.GU are lying in the eighth place after four defeats from 11 matches, including a 4-0 thrashing by Nico United in Selebi Phikwe last weekend.

GU sunk to yet another defeat on Tuesday and they trail leaders Township Rollers by 12 points.

Gumbo, who has been GU coach since 2014, led the club to a fourth place finish as well as the Mascom Top 8 title last season. GU will face Jwaneng Galaxy tomorrow (Saturday) at 4pm at Molepolole Sports Complex. ENDS
