Unio Flamingo Santos over the weekend fought hard to hold Letlapeng to a two all draw during a game played at Siga grounds in Ramotswa.

Santos was the first to score through Mpho Gaegopolwe in the early minutes of the first half after the home sides defence failed to deal with a cross from Boyo Lechaena.

After the goal, the visitors looked more dominating forcing the home side goalkeeper to make saves. However Letlapeng gained confidence and started to string passes and posed a threat to Santos, but they could not beat their target hence letting Santos to go into the half time break on the lead.

Three minutes from recess, the home team found the back of the net through Obakeng Phuduhutswana to level the score line.

Afterwards, both teams had equal chances, but Letlapeng got luckier when Santos gave away free kick about 30 metres from the goal line.

This proved to be a game changing opportunity as Victor Kgatlane beat a helpless Santos keeper, Tshepho Kgotlamotho to give the home side the lead. The lead was, however, short lived as Eric Molefi pulled one back to level the score through a penalty.

Moments later, Letlapeng’s Thabang Dira took a free kick which Santos goalkeeper Kgotlamotho dropped only for Phuduhutswana to score a goal which was disallowed.

In a post-match interview, Letlapeng coach, Enos Mmesi said his side played a good game but was only let done by bad refereeing.

 “I have never seen bad decisions than this, I could have beaten Santos,” added a furious Mmesi.  

He said the referee gave Santos a penalty for a foul which was committed outside the box and further disallowed his team’s goal.

However, he said his side managed to cope from the past weeks loss as well as the absence of some key players. While Santos coach, Kgosietsile Mampori said he could have won the game easily if his players could have played well.

“We trained well, prepared well but the display was bad. I just have to put the game behind us,” added Mampori.  Ends
