City opens another door

19 Oct 2015

When one door closed for Semitwe born Mr City, he never gave up as he knew another one will open.

It was not the end of the world for the 31 year-old man after being relieved from heavy duty by the health personnel. Since his job interfered with his construction job he had to introspect in order to meet life's demands to avoid being a statistic of the unemployed.

During an interview with BOPA  in Semitwe, Mr City noted that he started his business of secretarial services in 2014. He had managed to purchase some computer gadgets for personal use, little did he know that one day they will provide a source of income.

He pointed out that he had to use some of his savings to start up his business.

Though he was not a professional in the field, with the basic knowledge he had he believed he would make it.

For him, it was not going to be a smooth journey because such businesses usually prosper in towns but he was ready to take the risk in the village since it would save the villagers' time and money to go to nearby towns to get such services.  Elaborating on his business, he said that he does typing, photo-copying, photo shooting and printing funeral programmes, invitation cards and business cards.

He noted that he purchased a Public Address system that he hires out for some events like weddings and parties and that he is satisfied with the market since he is able to put bread on the table.

The young man said he is the only one in the village offering such services, therefore does not feel threatened but was quick to point out that he does not rule out the possibility of someone venturing into the same kind of business and is ready for such a challenge.

Mr City however pointed out that poor network coverage in the area is a hindrance for one to offer internet services as it also limit him to do some research about things that he would like to know.

His word of advice to his age mates is that it is never too late to succeed if one has passion for achieving their goals despite the challenges they may find themselves in.

He said people should not just rely on government assistance, but should find a source of income since no one knows what the future holds for the country.

“The youth should be creative to shape their future because diamonds are diminishing and our country will be left with nothing sustain its citizens.

So if we are not ready to face that situation, what will we do, sit and rot of hunger, no, we should stand on our own as responsible citizens,” he noted. Ends
