Lelani Mphetolang has emerged the overall winner of the Galo Powerlifting Championship held on Saturday.
The 27 year-old from Orapa club also won gold in the lightweight category of the championship, beating last year’s lightweight and overall winner Tlhopho Kgetsiyamore as well as Oarabile Moatlhodi who settled for silver and bronze medals respectively.
It was sweet victory for Mphetolang who told BOPA after being crowned that it took him two years to prepare for the championship.
“I did not compete last year as I felt I was still not yet ready and we started at our training as a team to motivate each other and we worked hard today,” he noted.
He won himself an undisclosed amount of money and hampers from sponsors such as Bokomo Botswana. In the other categories, Kebonyekgotla Ronkwane of SSKB club emerged victorious and won gold followed by Moemedi Masole who won silver in second place and Caiphus Kapimba settled for bronze in third place.
The light heavyweight category was won by Kabo Morobane of Orapa while Bakani Laba got the silver medal and Jong Rakgantshwana got bronze.
Tsebo Kedimotse of Jwaneng won gold in the super heavyweight category, which had two competitors, followed by Kagiso Mogocha who got silver.
Sponsors for the championships were Galo Mall, Bres, Nissan Francistown, Major Muscle and Fitness as well as Bokomo Botswana and all the winners received food hampers and undisclosed cash amounts. Ends
