Galachene lives off animal skins

Though Mr Peter Galachene could not excel in his academic education, that has not discouraged him or make him give up on life. The 45 year-old Nkange man, thought of ways to earn a living and never thought about a business idea based on natural resources.

Speaking to BOPA in an interview recently, he initially used hides as a way to drive boredom away but he developed more interest when he saw his friend sewing or fixing clients’ shoes.

Suddenly, Mr Galachene realised that the  business of hides has a quick cash flow and might turn into a money spinner for him. After hearing so much about the poverty eradication programmes, he went back to fixing shoe and maintaining handbags just like his friends used to do.

After having contact with the Ministry of Agriculture his journey unfolded as he enrolled in a six week leather training workshop in Dibete.

Mr Galachene said the training was successful and he said he acquired skills, knowledge and experience. The business is now flourishing and he can provide for his family. Ends
