Mascom increases Top 8 prize money

Mascom Wireless, sponsors of the Top 8 tournament, has announced an increase in the prize-money.
Mascom chief executive officer, Jose Couceiro, revealed during launch of the 2015/16 edition of the Mascom Top 8 on Wednesday October 14 that the champion will pocket P1.2 million. Couceiro said Mascom intended to make the competition bigger and better this year.
The runner-up will walk away with P550 000 while the two semi-finalists will pocket P300 000 each. Each of the four quarter finalists will receive P160 000.
Mascom, chief marketing officer, Dzene Makhwade-Seboni, said the Mascom Top 8 said they were proud to have partnered with the Botswana Premier League
She said season five of the Mascom Top 8 competition carried a range of Mascom services for the football fans, such as SMS services which included amongst others, Mascom Top 8 trivia, predict the score, game alerts as well as the supporters’ player of the tournament.
Botswana Football Association (BFA) president Tebogo Sebego said Mascom had invested over P20 million into football, particularly the Mascom Top 8 competition.
He said Mascom had come a long way with the Botswana Premier League adding that football always had a good relationship with Mascom.
Sebego said BFA valued partners like Mascom who continued to ensure that young people were afforded the opportunity to play football and realise their dreams.
Mascom, he said, had not run away from football despite the controversy and the challenges the game was going through at the world stage.
The competition will also hand out individual awards for best performers. The player of the tournament (number one player) will receive P50 000, the top goalscorer will get P30 000, best goalkeeper P25 000, best coach P25 000, while the best referee will walk away with P20 000 and the best assistant P10 000.
