Black Forest look to extend lead
15 Oct 2015
Ambitious Mmankgodi side, Black Forest, have a chance to extend their lead in the Debswana First Division South league when they host Modipane United this weekend. In their previous match, Forest defeated Mogoditshane Fighters 2-1 to go top of the table with nine points from five matches.
Forest have registered two victories and three draws so far and is the only unbeaten team in the division.
Modipane has on one hand suffered two successive defeats since former head coach Wire Kaelo left the team, losing 3-0 and 1-0 respectively to Sharps and Notwane.
The team has brought in former coach Fani Mathiba to replace Kaelo who has joined Notwane. Modipane chairman Moneedi Mokgwa explained in an interview that Mathiba will be in charge of the team against Forest on Sunday.
Mokgwa said the agreement between them and Mathiba is for the coach to help the team gain promotion to the beMOBILE Premiership at the end of this season.
Modipane are lying in position nine with seven points having won two and lost two of their five matches. However, they are two points behind the log-leaders and victory might see them leapfrog to the top.
“Mathiba is the one who helped this team gain promotion to the first division a few years ago. He then left us after he was transferred to Molepolole.
But we brought him back after Kaelo left us because we believe he is the coach that can take us to the Premiership,” Mokgwa said.
He said the coach has already expressed satisfaction with the quality of players they have in the team. In other first division matches, resurgent Notwane will take on third placed Sharps at Sharps ground on Sunday. Notwane has won its last two matches in a row following a difficult start to the season.
Also on Sunday, Mochudi Rovers will host Rolling Boys.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Lesirane City welcome bottom of the log Tsabong Black Rangers in Lesirane, Prisons XI host Mogoditshane Fighters at SSG, while Letlapeng is home to Uniao Flamingo Santos in Ramotswa. Matches kick-off at 3.30pm. Ends
