Minister of Health, Ms Dorcas Makgato has urged Boteti women and the youth to take advantage of business opportunities availed by the existing and upcoming mining activities. Ms Makgato said this during women empowerment and network fundraising dinner held in Letlhakane recently.

By so doing, she said they would be contributing to the country's economic growth and creating employment.

She stated that networking created a platform to learn how others do things, making connections, sharing information and ideas among others.

Furthermore, Ms Makgato said business development was at the heart of government's economic diversification drive initiative aimed at promoting the growth of a vibrant and globally competitive private sector. The private sector, she said was regarded as the engine of growth because it had the capability to create sustainable employment and economic diversification.

She said Botswana was currently diverting endeavours towards the private sector in an effort to diversify local economy away from diamonds.

Ms Makgato noted that government welcomed any contributions no matter how insignificant they may appear towards employment creation as the country was faced with the challenge of unemployment.

The aim of the fundraising dinner was to create a networking platform for women and raise funds for non-profit initiatives, whose beneficiaries were the less fortunate in society. Ends
