TV sets for patients

Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD) has donated 32 television sets, 12 decoders and 10 wall mounting stands to the Ministry of Health for education-entertainment purposes by patients in selected health care facilities.
Handing over the sets in Gaborone on April 16, Minister Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi said the television sets will go a long way in keeping patients informed and entertained.
She noted that the money used to purchase the television sets was raised by her ministry through a fundraising concert for the disadvantaged in support of the President’s poverty eradication initiative.
Dr Venson-Moitoi said out of the total of P230 000 that was raised, P82 000 was spent on purchasing the television sets, while P93 000 was used as concert expenditure. The balance of P53 000 was used to support on-going projects for the needy, she explained. The minister thanked sponsors for supporting the concert.
Meanwhile, health assistant minister, Mr Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri said the television sets will enable patients to learn from educational programmes, enjoy recreational drama programmes and get spiritual revival from religious sessions that are usually broadcast on television.
Mr Matlhabaphiri called on other government ministries, the private sector and civil society to show compassion for the sick and under privileged people by improving their quality of life.
He noted that the gesture would complement the ministry’s on-going health initiatives. ENDS
