Extension Gunners have rekindled their relationship with former player and coach, Daniel ‘Chicco’ Nare.
Nare, who coached Mapatsula on two occassions, was appointed this week to replace Keitumetse Paul who was fired last month. Gunners’ spokesperson, Keorapetse Kgasa, confirmed on Tuesday that the club had re-united with Nare.
“We have reached an agreement with Chicco but have not signed contract just yet,” Kgasa said. However, he said they were looking into signing a contract for a period of two to three years. Kgasa said one of Chicco’s tasks would be to win the premier league trophy.
He also said they had given him the task of winning the Mascom Top 8, adding that they were confident that he would deliver.
“What we discussed with Chicco is winning the league. In case we do not get the league, we have agreed on a top four finish at least,” said Kgasa.
He was confident that the Gunners players would flourish under the former Letlapeng and BMC coach. “Gunners have a pool of players that suit Nare’s playing philosophy, and we are satisfied of the pool that we have.
Nare is one of coaches with the highest pedigree when it comes to coaching in Botswana,” he said.Nare has played for the national team, Gunners, BMC and Mochudi Centre Chiefs.
He has had a long coaching career. He previously coached Maletamotse, BMC and Gunners before acting as Mike Sithole’s assistant at Centre Chiefs in the 2006/07season.
His next stop was at Township Rollers where he was co-coach alongside David Bright in a short stint.
He then resurfaced at Gunners, leading the team to a fourth place finish in 2010, before leaving for BMC where he achieved a second place finish in 2012. He left BMC in January for Letlapeng where he quit after four losses. Ends
