Photographers to display works in LA

18 Apr 2013

A local group of photographers is expected to exhibit their work at the Darkroom (DRKRM) gallery in Los Angeles, USA from April 20 to May 4.

The exhibition dubbed ‘Developing Change’ will display work by a group of local children who volunteered in photography from 2007 to 2010.

THUTO Foundation spokesperson, Annelize Bester said a group of volunteer photographers also included social workers, parents and the foundation staff members.

Bester said participants photographed their families, schools and other places of interest in Botswana.

Their work, she said was named ‘The Children of Botswana’ because the education fund will help HIV/AIDS orphans and disadvantaged children around the country.

She indicated that proceeds from the event will also benefit Mathangwane and surrounding areas in the Tonota North Constituency.

She explained that this was because the foundation was involved in helping plan the Mathangwane Campus and The Anglican International Schools of Botswana, Africa (TAISBAs).

Meanwhile, DRKRM exhibits photographs that feature humanitarian organisations dedicated to positive and beneficial change through camerawork. It uses photography to introduce and keep children engaged in the education process, teaching photography as a useful, empowering and employable skill or seeking to provide a record of a living form of photography on the brink of disappearing.

‘Developing Change Exhibition’ was curated out of the belief that photography promotes the power and beauty of humanitarian aid, however difficult the subject matter.

Images presented in the exhibition reflect more than just an observed moment. ENDS
