BONA SPAR super stars is back

09 Oct 2015

Botswana Netball Association (BONA) has announced the second edition of the BONA SPAR Super Stars.

A press release from BONA indicates that the scope of the tournament is such that it is player driven as opposed to team driven in comparison to the format in a league.

Its main focus will be on player potential to showcase their talent, in the bid to reach highest potential in the game of netball.

It says BONA came up with the model of play after an extensive benchmarking exercise with the Singapore Super League as well as SA Brutal Fruit tournament.

The first edition, according to the release, was a success and BONA has revised this year’s format in order to make the games even more competitive. MaLittle South – the best U-21 players based in South Botswana, MaLittle North – the best U-21 players based in North Botswana national team, Future Stars – the best talent aged above 21 up to 25 years, SPAR South – the best talent above 25 years based in South Botswana, SPAR North – the best talent above 25 based in North Botswana

The release further says BONA this year made a deliberate decision to increase the number of teams for players aged below 21 in an effort to increase the pool of talent available for Team Botswana as Botswana prepares to host the Netball World Youth Cup in 2017.

Furthermore, BONA will use the tournament to identify two national teams and an Under 21 team that will play against a visiting Singpore team scheduled for Botswana in November.

It says SPAR remains a key partner to Botswana and women sports and will inject P270 000 to cover the various administrative and project costs. SPAR will also provide officials and players meals, medals and trophies, individual awards, branding and merchandise. The total sponsorship from SPAR is estimated at P300 000. Ends
