District makes strides on Vision 2016
07 Oct 2015
The South East District has made progress in realising Vision 2016 pillars.
The assertion was made by Dr Charity Kruger, Vision 2016 coordinator, at a kgotla meeting in Ramotswa recently where the roving vision torch made a stop.
She commended the district for championing the spirit of self-reliance by developing its education system without fully depending on government for assistance, citing the success of special education schools for children with disability like Legodi Training Centre.
Dr Kruger said the district has made strides in achieving the vision pillar of an educated and informed nation. She observed that the district has a lower crime rate compared to other districts, which translates to great performance on the pillar of a safe and secure nation.
She also said that the district has the least number of cases of discrimination against women, children, the aged and the disabled. She added that it also has the least number of cases of sexual harassment. She said that this could have been influenced by the fact that the district is highly religious. Dr Kruger also lauded the area for attracting investment in the form of companies like Bolux and Senn Foods.
She said that the firms have brought developments like employment and a market for local produce.
For her part, the paramount chief of Balete Kgosi Mosadi Seboko urged Ramotswa residents to live up to the ideals that the roving torch espouses. She advised them to unite and work together. She said that they should accept one another regardless of differences in religion, culture and gender. She warned that discriminating against each other will only tear the village apart.
Also present at the gathering was a member of the Vision 2016 council board and the chairperson of the Botswana National Sports Council Mr Solly Reikeletseng, who explained the symbolism of the torch.
The fire of unity torch was then moved around the village’s monuments before it left for Otse the following morning. The monuments included the St Conrad’s Mission School, Bamalete Lutheran Hospital, Dolomites, the manganese mine and Magopane Hill. Ends
