Salons survive despite water shortage
07 Oct 2015
Hair salons in Gabane are soldiering on despite widespread water shortage that the southern part of the country is experiencing due to poor rainfall and drying up of dams.
One of the operators, Tebogo Malope of Ngajozikue Hair Salon, told BOPA that they stored water in containers to help when taps ran dry.
“We get water from a borehole here in Gabane so that we do not have to shut down the business. There are also private business operators who sell water,” stated Malope.
She said closing the salon even for just a day, they risked losing clients. Another salon operator, Francinah Tawanana of Da Rocks Hair Salon, said despite water shortage they have not retrenched workers. Tawanana said she often drove to Molepolole to get water and use it sparingly.
Their busy days are Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and they too say they could not afford to close during rationing periods lest they lost customers. Ends
