Foreign nationals lease land
18 Apr 2013
The Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Lebonaamang Mokalake has told Parliament that currently land allocation to foreign nationals is on leasehold not ownership.
Thus, Mr Mokalake said his ministry is not averse to looking in to improvements to such arrangements.
Answering a question, he said transfer of freehold land is on perpetual ownership and such transfer is effected after offers have been made to citizens first.
Tonota North MP, Mr Fidelis Molao had asked him if he will consider adopting a strategy of leasing land to foreign nationals instead of ownership.
Mr Molao also asked him whether this strategy will not curb the scenario where locals are disadvantaged and nip in the bud the simmering tensions brought by the issue of land ownership between locals and foreign nationals before the situation gets out of control. ENDS
