MoESD sponsors research as part of programme
18 Apr 2013
The Minister of Education and Skills Development, Dr Pelonomi Venson- Moitoi has told Parliament that her ministry sponsors research as part of fulfilment of relevant programme requirements across all fields of study at different levels of tertiary education.
Answering a question from Nata/Gweta MP, Mr Rayner Makosha, Dr Venson-Moitoi said students are then free to publish their research projects in international journals or publications.
She said any further research or development of ideas expressed in the research project can be done through other institutions responsible for such research.
MP Makosha had asked the minister if there are plans to encourage creativity by sponsoring ground breaking research at tertiary institutions especially for final year students in engineering and information technology given that most of their brilliant ideas are left to gather dust in libraries only for the same ideas and technologies to be brought in later from and by other countries.
