Sky is limit for Katso

05 Oct 2015

Socrates, one of the wisest men to have ever lived once said, education is the kindling of a flame not the filling of a vessel. His words could best describe Katso Gosenyamang affectionately called Professor by his peers and teachers at Makgadikgadi JSS.

The 16-year-old Mosu-born is not only academically gifted, but is also known for his humility and good conduct. Although he is an introvert, that has not affected his academic acumen, as he is the school’s best performer.

He often finds studying at home challenging as the house does not have power to illuminate.

His motto is Latin phrase “per aspera ad astra” (through hardships to the stars). He saidthe head of department for Dinkwe House in his school introduced the fore-mentioned phrase to him after he realised his potential and the life back home.

He said the HOD’s support has been astonishing.

Katso showed that he was indeed a star in the making when he recently bagged more than half a dozen prices, at the school’ prize giving ceremony.

He went home with Mathematics, Integrated Science, Physical Education, Social Studies, Commerce and Accounting prizes and as if that was not enough, he got an award for reaching the nationals in the Social Studies fair. He was crowned overall best form three student and got another award for a job well done as the president of the Student Representative Council.

The student, who aspires to be an optician, said topping in science-related subjects is a good indication that his dream will come true.

An unsuccessful eye operation at Sekgoma Memorial hospital influenced his career choice.

“My right eye is artificial, after I was operated at Sekgoma just two weeks before I sat for my Primary School Leaving Examinations. After what transpired I realized there is need for personnel in this area. I want to help others.”

Nonetheless, he obtained an A, a thing which motivated him to work even harder. “I want to reach my full potential, this is not enough, I know that I can do better than this  because last  year when I was doing form two my father had to look for a car to transport my accolades, I am certain that I will pass my Junior Certificate Examinations  with flying colours.”

He alluded that he also drew the drive from the school head Ms Kolobetso Seabe who arranged motivational talks every fortnight on Tuesdays, thus growing his thirst for excellence. Katso said he believed that through hard work he could be among the top achievers. Katso’s father Gofamodimo Boleseng said he is an indoor person, a good listener and a book worm.

He said Katso had made his intentions known at a tender age that he wants to become a doctor, adding that he is not surprised to see him excel in the most critical subjects. Ends
