Masire gives Batswana pat on the back

Batswana have been commended for their contribution towards the development of their country.

Former President, Sir Ketumile Masire said during independence celebrations in Kanye recently that ever since attaining self-rule at independence, Batswana have made huge strides to take Botswana from where it was to its present upper-middle income economy.

He pointed out unity as among the many ideals that has helped Botswana rise from amongst the poorest of nations to an envy it is today.

“Many were skeptical about our self-rule but look at where we are now,” he said adding that what remains now is for the current generation to devise ways to fight present-day challenges and lay essential foundation for future posterity to work on.

Taking young people on board Sir Ketumile underscored is one of the many ways to ensuring continuity on successes achieved thus far. Sir Ketumile was however worried by the country’s food insufficiency and called on the nation to knuckle down and reverse the tide.

Member of Parliament for Kanye North, Mr Patrick Ralotsia said it was no secret that the country is experiencing a serious dry spell and therefore implored the nation to always preserve water.
He advised fellow Batswana to buy water storage tanks for purposes of harvesting water to be used during drought.

Mr Ralotsia, who is the Minister of Agriculture, told the gathering that plans were afoot to address both water and electricity crisis faced by the nation. He cited solar energy as one of the primary areas government will exploit to augment power supply.

Kgosi Malope II said it was important for the nation to be steadfast and pray for the heavens to release rain. Ends
