Gumare trade show underway
05 Oct 2015
Preparations are underway for the first ever Okavango international trade show scheduled for November 20-29 at the Gumare show ground.
The event will be held under the theme: Bringing services to the people hence creation of employment opportunities.
One of the organisers, Ms Naledi Motlamedi of Oscastars Holdings explained in an interview that the intention was to bring services and products closer to the people.
Ms Motlamedi said they decided to host the show because the Okavango Sub-district has limited service providing organisations such as CEDA and LEA.
She further explained that their target was young people who were unemployed and unable to take advantage of government initiatives. She said the show would educate people and encourage them to utilise government programmes aimed at empowering them.
“Youth are the future leaders and we found it necessary to take them on board, educate them on the available programmes so that they could make informed decisions,” added Ms Motlamedi.
The organisers are working with Gumare’s leadership, farmers associations, the local business community and the show committee. ends
