BCL committed to supporting education
02 Oct 2015
Stakeholders have been encouraged to join hands to ensure that children receive quality education. BCL division manager asset management Mr Morse Mosienyane, said this at a prize giving ceremony at Mosetlha Junior Secondary School in Bobonong recently.
He said collective efforts were key to academic excellence, adding that children were the future of this country.
Therefore, investing in education was an obligation that had to be discharged with outmost humility. Education, he said, was the only tool to prepare children for a better future.
Mr Mosienyane said due to economic crisis, which had left many nations in financial constraints, Botswana came up with initiatives such as adopt a school initiative and mentorship programmes to ensure that the country attained its Vision 2016 pillar of becoming an educated and informed nation.
He noted that teenage pregnancy, drug and alcohol abuse, indiscipline were some of the challenges that hampered performance and good academic results at schools.
Mr Mosienyane encouraged students to take academic work seriously and end acts of indiscipline.
It was only through education that most people survived in this world as without it, there was no brighter future, he said.
The BCL, he said, was committed to supporting education in whatever way possible adding that in this year’s prize giving ceremony, they sponsored the school to the tune of P10 000 .
The school head, Ms Zibanani Legwaila, said the school had been excelling academically since its establishment in 1988.
She said Mosetlha was among the best performing schools that produced good quality results in Bobirwa.
The school head echoed that shortage of classrooms, furniture, books and stationery and computers hinders academic progression of students.
The school has a student population of 653 and had to share 312 chairs and shortage of learning material was not conducive for learning, she stated.
Ms Legwaila said parents at times had volunteered to use their own money to help the school.
She also cited accommodation among teachers as one of the problems they faced and that some teachers quarters needed renovation. Ms Legwaila applauded MVA for participating in school activities or events and that helped in formation of the school’s road safety club. Ends
