Church leads nation in repentance prayer
02 Oct 2015
Various churches in Thamaga gathered at the main kgotla on Sunday (October 2) to pray about issues of concern to the public such as lack of rain, the increase of diseases and for good independence celebration.
Welcoming people, Kgosi Segale Gobuamang of Thamaga said the prayers that were held were a conclusion of what have been prayed for as people have been praying for rain, good health and independence celebration.
Kgosi Gobuamang said the purpose of the meeting as different churches was to ask the Lord to pour the rain on his people.
Giving a word of encouragement, Bishop Keobonye Motlhabai, read the scriptures from John 14:21-23.
He elaborated the scripture by saying if the people of God hear and obey the word of the Father, He will love them.
Bishop Motlhabai continued to explain that “Jesus said those who see him, have seen the Father and if the Kingdom of God abides in us we should have peace, also that whoever hears the word of the Lord will be cleansed.
As we are gathered here we are here to worship, it is good to worship but we should worship in truth. The reason why there are so many churches is because in some churches there is no truth,” he concluded.
During prayer for healing of diseases, Pastor Dikgang Tlhaolang read the Bible in the book of 2 Chronicles 7:14.
He said the Lord is giving the nation an opportunity “by saying if my people who are called by my name, shall humble themselves and turn back from their wicked ways I will heal their land.
If we can only just repent the Lord will heal our land, it is time that we repent and the Lord will heal us. We need to turn away from our ways and ask for the forgiveness of sins.
In Psalm 107:20 the word of the Lord said the Lord sent forth his word and healed the people of their diseases and afflictions. We need the word of God,” he noted.
Pastor Lopang Raboloko, who prayed for rain said in the Old Testament the time when the Israelites started to engage with people who were of foreign faith, the glory of the Lord departed from them.
To pray for independence celebration, Pastor Mokganedi Gaadingwe, said it was important to thank the Lord for having protected Botswana for the past 49 years.
He said since Botswana gained independence, the country has been living in total peace.“ Psalm 107:1 is our scripture for today. We should learn to appreciate what God has given us as there are some countries that are fighting over power, some are divided because of religion but we are living in total peace. It has been the Lord who has been keeping us and being our shepard all this time and that is why we have to thank him.” he preached.
For his part, the area Member of Parliament who is also Minister of Transport and Communication Mr Tshenolo Mabeo, said the pastors have preached and prayers have been uttered and that the Lord has heard the prayers. He said the Bible says if the children of the Lord ask for bread he will not give them snake so they should know that their prayers have been answered.
Mr Mabeo said what he likes was when good health and diseases were prayed for as he said without good health there is no life.
“We have prayed for independence but we should know that independence day is not just on September 30th but everyday, and we should ensure that independence is peaceful by practicing peace as individuals.”
Mr Mabeo stated that he was greateful that the churches came together regardless of their differences but decided to come together for prayer.
“As we celebrate independence let us be cautious as road users.
Let us know that other people’s lives are in our hands. Let us return in one pierce and let us continue to pray for our country,” he closed.
Chairperson of Pastors Association in Thamaga, Pastor Botsang Mokaba said if there is one thing that can touch the heart of God, it is if his children would come together in one accord and seek Him in truth.
“Our former member of parliament Reverent Dr John Seakgosing, once said if an organ like the church can be united nothing and nobody can stop it if it embarks on something. I would like to agree with his words let us be united church of God,” he said. Ends
