Public servants give back in Shakawe
27 Sep 2015
Shakawe public officers have chosen every second Wednesday of every month to give back to the community.
Speaking in an interview recently, the Village Extension Team (VET) vice chairperson, Mr Lucky Zankere said this was in accordance with the President’s initiatives.
Mr Zankere, who is also a head teacher at Shakawe Junior Secondary School (CJSS), said public servants of a particular village need to be seen as part of that village by getting involved in charity activities.
He noted that such activities build a strong relationship between public servants and the community they serve.
The VET vice chairperson pointed out that although they have not yet coiled their activities, the journey of serving the community started last week.
Mr Zankere said beneficiaries were chosen by the Social and Community Development (S&CD) department of the Okavango Sub-council as well as chiefs of the village.
He said activities take two to three hours unless the work they were doing was heavy. Mr Zankere said they started by fencing the backyard tree nursery of one poverty eradication beneficiary, Ms Kganetso Nxaangu.
He noted that the activity was heavy and took them some days as they also needed to catch up at the offices where they serve. ENDS
