Adopt -A -School bears fruit
23 Sep 2015
Individuals and business people in Mahalapye have been urged to embrace the idea of Adopt-A-School as the government alone cannot achieve its mandate of educating every Motswana single-handedly.
Speaking during the Official Opening and Prize Giving Ceremony at Nthompe Koma Primary School, Mr Oaitse Gaonakala, an official at the Botswana Public Service College and former teacher said that the initiative will ensure that children receive adequate development and education that is relevant and competitive at the global community.
He emphasised the importance of education and said that it is vital for children to get education as the country needs educated personnel in order to prosper in its endeavors.
“I want to urge all the teachers here to work tirelessly in delivering their mandate. I know there are a lot of challenges in your field of work but as the nation we recognise the positive impact and the contribution you make for the country.
I would like to encourage you to continue with your good performance,” he said.
Mr Gaonakala called on parents to be committed to their children's education by fully supporting the teachers in order to improve pupils' results.
He said that they understand that not everyone can afford to adopt a school but the least they could do is meet teachers halfway to ensure that their children take education seriously and perform better. He went on to encourage pupils to take their education seriously by revisiting their work every day after school saying that will help them attain the positive results.
Another speaker, Mr Olekotse Koma, also a former teacher who also graced the event, said that contributing towards the development of education does not necessarily have to be financial.
Mr Koma donated some books to the school library and volunteered to give free financial motivation to the school' staff. He said poor performance can be a result of the staff's frustration which sometimes are due to financial troubles.
Nthompe Koma Primary School was established in 2002 and the school officially opened this year after 13 years. It has over 500 students and around 20 teachers. The ceremony was held under the theme, Education the Light That glazes our Future Towards Vision 2016. Ends
