Poverty eradication projects do well in Kgatleng

The implementation of poverty Eradication programme has changed the living standards of many of its beneficiaries.
Briefing Kgatleng district full council session on Monday Septemer 21, Council chairperson, Mr Mpho Morolong said positive results have been witnessed by those who took the programme seriously. He said some of the beneficiaries are able to pay school fees, buy groceries while those engaged in tent hire have expanded their businesses and created employment.
Some of the bakery beneficiaries, he said, have been awarded tenders to supply primary schools with bread and this has facilitated fresh bread supply to school children.
He noted that some clients have managed to extend their houses, installed electricity and two salon beneficiaries have managed to build salons for themselves and created employment.
However, the council chairperson expressed disappointment that there are some projects that are not doing well such as catering, kiosk and laundry due to group dynamics and lack of commitment by beneficiaries.
On a different note, Cllr Morolong said this financial year, the district is implementing 111 projects with two spill-over projects.
He said the overall progress for the program stands at 35 per cent against the planned 50 per cent due to delays in awarding tender which delayed implementation of maintenance projects.
Cllr Morolong cited water rationing as a challenge facing the programme, saying it would affect time delivery of projects and specifications.
He told councillors that after protracted engagements on the drafting of a service contract between Council and Botswana Post, payment of Ipelegeng beneficiaries will commence this month. ENDS
