PTA urges parents to pay development fees

23 Sep 2015

Parents have been urged to pay outstanding development school fees.

Deputy chairperson of the Parents and Teachers Association at Lobatse Senior Secondary School, Ms Onalenna Itheetseng, said during the institution’s prize giving ceremony that some parents are still lagging behind with such payments.

She said that they use development fees to pay volunteers who take care of ablution blocks.

Moreover, she complained that parents do not attend PTA meetings, denying themselves an opportunity to contribute in the development of the school.

Ms Itheetseng said the school’s PTA managed to purchase tanks that can store 10 000 litres to assist the school in times of water shortages so that classes are not cancelled.

She also added that they have bought a television set for boarding students to curb acts of delinquency such as escaping from school at night.

She said that the committee decided to withhold certificates of students who have completed their studies with outstanding balances but some parents reported the matter to the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC).

She said that they owe suppliers who made them student identity cards P30 000.

She implored the parents to settle the debt. Ms Itheetseng also lauded the school management for the good working relationship it has with the PTA committee.

She added that, through their collaboration, both parties are in a better position to nurture the students and move the country forward.  ENDS
