Councillors should enhance service delivery

23 Sep 2015

Kgatleng District Council chairperson, Mr Mpho Morolong has urged councillors to enhance their performance for better service delivery.

Speaking during the Kgatleng District Council session on Monday, Councillor Morolong said the once “number one district council in Botswana” has over time lost team.

He said it was time they engage in a generative exercise aimed at finding lasting solutions to the challenges faced by the district.

Councillor Morolong said, nevertheless, he was confident that they have what it takes to reclaim the glory they once held if only all can contribute meaningfully to areas of operation.

He also applauded and congratulated President Lt Gen Seretse Khama Ian Khama for having assumed the SADC chairmanship, duly deputised by King Mswati III of Swaziland.

He said President Khama reiterated the need for cooperation between SADC countries to transform their economies when he addressed the 35th Ordinary meeting of the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

Mr Morolong quoted the President saying, “While the development targets that we have set for ourselves will not be easy to achieve, I am confident that with strong determination and our common resolve, we will be able to transform our economies for the better and improve the quality of life of our citizenry.”

The council chairperson said he once tabled a motion that calls for a replica of a SADC Parliamentary forum at the local level institutions like Councils.

He argued that if his motion was to be implemented which called for the establishment of SADC Municipality Forum, SADC regional councillors will have a forum where they can meet and share ideas on best practices especially where issues of local governance are concerned.

“This will also assist SADC to decentralise local governance issues to this forum,” he said.  ENDS
