Ipelegeng provides relief to the vulnerable

17 Apr 2013

Ipelegeng programme provides relief to vulnerable members of society. As such, the Assistant Minsiter of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso said beneficiaries were only paid for the days worked, including public holidays as well as when beneficiaries had gone for medical attention with proof thereof.

Answering a question in Parliament, she said there was no allowance paid to un-enrolled beneficiaries who would have gone for short term training for self-development in order to seek long term and sustainable opportunities.

She further pointed out that Tewane residents who were not enrolled in Ipelegeng but attended a training programme on cooperatives for their envisaged guest house cooperative would not have been paid any Ipelegeng allowance for that period.

Shoshong MP, Mr Phillip Makgalemele has asked the minister to state the allowance payment policy for Ipelegeng workers when they had gone for short term training given that beneficiaries were encouraged to seek long term and sustainable opportunities.

Mr Makgalemele also asked the minister to explain why residents of Tewane, who attended a training programme on cooperatives for their envisaged guest house cooperative were not paid their allowance on the days they attended training. ENDS
