Nico register narrow win against Motlakase

Selebi Phikwe -based football team, Nico United registered a narrow 1-0 victory against Palapye -based outfit Motlakase Power Dynamos in a beMOBILE Premiership encounter at the Selebi Phikwe Stadium recently.

Majombolo started the game on a high note which showed that they were in a mission to utilise a home ground advantage to win the game. Onkabetse Makgantai and Christopher Musonda were a marvel to watch in the first half as they were testing the goal keeping capabilities of Chouka Chouka’s Segakolodi Ntima with numerous  long range shots.

Musonda failed to convert numerous deadly crosses from Mankgantai. Motlakase managed to absorb the pressure that was piled on them by Majombolo in the first half. In the second half, Nico United through Musonda came with more attempts to score goals However, most shots were off target. Nico United coach Welsely Mondo introduced Khumoetsile Kufigwa for Richard Legwaila in the 80th minute and his introduction immediately changed the complexion of the game with Nico United strikers and middle fielders combining well. 

The change rewarded Majombolo with a goal in the 85th minute, with Spencer Ngalande scoring the solitary goal to give Majombolo a 1-0 lead.

Nico continued to terrorise Motlakase’s defence with Makgantai and Innocent Sikhungu who were displaying a sterling performance to make sure that they seal their win over the Chouka-Chouka team. Just before recess, Wesley Mondo introduced Obakeng Gaanabeng for Gift Moyo to beef up  Majombolo’s striking force.

Nico United’s ever hardworking captain Richard Legwaila was awarded man of the match winning himself cash prize of P1 000 after his team managed to beat Motlakase one nil. In the post- match interview Motlakase Power Dynamos coach Agang Mogotsi stated that his team failed to close down Nico United players from crossing deadly balls that led to a sole goal that Majombolo scored.

Mogotsi also attributed his team’s defeat to playing against the strong wind which made his team not to play to their highest standard. He said he is confident that his team will improve as time goes on. 

For his part, Nico United coach Wesley Mondo said  their game plan went well and  his team is catching up with the winning momentum which will make them to rise up in the log table. Ends
